Made famous in a number of films, including 'The Gladiator' starring Russell Crowe's, this ancient ruin known as the Colosseum was home to some of the most brutal bloodsports and violent entertainment fixtures in the history of man. Not only were gladiators pitted against each other in this very arena, a number of minorities of the time were executed or fed to lions, including Christians. Despite it's bloody history, the Colosseum has impressively stood the test of time, a testament to the pragmatic and yet extravagant architecture and engineering of the Romans in ancient Italy.
