Description
North-western Europe at night. View from the International Space Station (ISS) of the city lights of north-western Europe. North is at left. Visible are the large urban areas of London (UK, lower left), Paris (France, centre), and Brussels (Belgium, with thin cloud cover) and Amsterdam (Netherlands, both at upper left). The bright area at upper right is Milan, Italy. London and Paris are some 340 kilometres apart, with the angle of view foreshortening the 640 kilometres between Paris and Milan. Dark areas include the English Channel and the Alps. Photographed by an Expedition 28 crew member at 0025 Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) on 10 August 2011.
