Description
Walking the streets in any city, developed or developing, you will be surprised what pleasures you will find if you just look up. Its a proven fact that a human looks up less than any other direction, but if you fight that urge, there are some great tresures to discover.
Take this scene for example. Continuing my love of a clash or contrast of material, this juxtaposition of steel, timber and concrete was presented in one image with differing patterns as much as the material differed. This unique type of scene was in an area known as Darling Harbour in Sydney, Australia. The area I was looking up at was actually the underside of a major motorway next to a modernist style building. The light was streaming in at a perfect example so I zoomed in fairly tight. Passing a high contrast black and white process with some slight dodging and burning to bring out more of the character of each material I was able to achieve essence of the shot. The way the lines lead and meet the curves and the hard to fathom depths and shapes makes me think of MC Escher. I think someone can get lost in this image in a similar way.
